Fri 11 Sep, 7:30-9:30 pm. National traumas – like the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center buildings – are seared into our minds. They are known by their dates alone. Any additional titles are superfluous. But what happens over time to the way we absorb and mark these days, especially when we are separated from them by centuries? How do they enter into our collective experience and memory? What can we learn from how we observe and mark Tisha b’Av that may inform us about the long-lasting effect of 9/11? Rabbi Peter Schweitzer will explore these questions and invite discussion. Following our service and program, join us for pot-luck dessert and schmoozing. St. Johns, 81 Christopher St., New York, NY, 10014, New York, 10014. Amy Stein, (212) 213-1002. Free.
