Pre-Superbowl Hike from Mountaingate and Optional Lunch afterwards at Skirball Cultural Center, Sunday, February 1st, 2009 Come join Mosaic Outdoor Club of Greater Los Angeles and Nexus for some exercise before the big game. Jeff Zimerman and Mark Ross will lead this 5 mile round trip hike on fire road from the top of the Mountaingate community. This trail, conveniently located minutes from the 405, between West LA and the Valley, includes 500 feet elevation gain, and is rated moderate. From the trail, you will be treated to panoramic views of West Los Angeles.
IMPORTANT: All MOSAIC events require participants to sign a Liability Release Waiver at the event location. If you would like to read the waiver before the event, you can do so at http://www.mosaicla.org/signin.pdf. Please email the event leader if you have any questions about this.

HIKE START TIME: Meet at the trailhead at 10:15 A.M.; leave at 10:30 A.M. SHARP!
HIKE END TIME: 1:00 P.M. -- You will be back to your car by 1:00 P.M.
BRING: 2 liters of water, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, sweater and a snack to share. You may also consider
bringing a camera.
FOOTWARE: Tennis shoes or hiking boots

PARKING INFORMATION: Park on the street, near the intersection of Mountaingate Road and Canyonback Drive.
Rain on Sunday morning cancels BOTH the Hike AND the Lunch; otherwise the hike AND the Lunch are both on.
AFTER HIKE OPTIONAL LUNCH AND VISIT TO THE SKIRBALL CULTURAL CENTER:
Following the hike, those not rushing off to a Superbowl Party, please join us for lunch, organized by Shari, at the Skirball Cultural Center, minutes away from the trailhead. Dining options include: Zeidler's Café (a sit-down restaurant with excellent food, see link below for the menu), Zeidler’s Cart, or your own picnic lunch. If you would like to be included in our group reservation for a table at Zeidler's Café, please rsvp to zeidlerscafelunch@mosaicla.org by Jan. 31, or rsvp in person at the hike trailhead at 10:30 on Feb. 1st. If you plan to bring your own picnic lunch or purchase food from Zeidler’s Cart, no rsvp is necessary. Directions to the cafe from the hike will be provided at the start of the hike.
After lunch, you can also visit the Museum; there is a special Exhibit “Prisms of Jewish Life” going on until Feb. 8th, 2009. The museum visit will not be a Mosaic led activity, and as such, participants will do it on their own. DIRECTIONS TO THE TRAILHEAD:
From Valleys: Take the San Diego Freeway (I-405) South and get off at the Mulholland Drive / Skirball Center Drive Exit. Turn Right from the offramp and immediately turn Left on Sepuveda Blvd. Continue South on Sepulveda Blvd to Mountaingate Drive (the first signal). Turn Right on Mountaingate Drive and continue to the end of the road; make a left at the end/top of Mountaingate and park at the end of the street.
From Westside, Downtown, and points South: Take the San Diego Freeway (I-405) North and get off at the Getty Center Drive Exit. Turn Left from the offramp onto Sepuveda Blvd. Continue North on Sepulveda Blvd to Mountaingate Drive (the third signal). Turn Left on Mountaingate Drive and continue to the end of the road; make a left at the end/top of Mountaingate and park at the end of the street.
CARPOOL POINTS:
We will carpool from the West side, the Valley and and Orange County (See below).
West LA Carpool
We will carpool from Trader Joe's - 10850 National Boulevard (at Westwood). There is plenty of parking on the side streets - do not park in the Trader Joe's lot. Meet in the upper Trader Joe's lot at 9:45 AM and leave at 10:00 AM SHARP. PLEASE NOTE: there may be no Mosaic/Nexus people at this carpool point, so form your own carpools.
Valley Carpool
We will meet in Sherman Oaks, 15410 Ventura Blvd, at the Union 76 Gas Station across from Marriot Courtyard Hotel (on Ventura Blvd. just west of the 405 Fwy.). Meet at 9:45 AM and leave at 10:000 AM SHARP. PLEASE NOTE: there may be no Mosaic/Nexus people at this carpool point, so form your own carpools.
Long Beach/West Orange County Carpool
We will carpool from BEHIND CVS Pharmacy (formerly SavOn Drugs) - 12490 Seal Beach Blvd Seal Beach, CA 90740-2711 (at Saint Cloud). There is plenty of parking BETWEEN the CVS Pharmacy and the Ralph's. There is a Starbuck's and various other restaurants and stores such as ZPizza, Togo's, Island's, Target, etc. in the same parking lot. Meet in the parking lot at 9:00 AM behind the CVS Pharmacy. We leave at 9:15 AM SHARP! PLEASE NOTE: there may be no Mosaic people at this carpool point, so form your own carpools.
