Sunday, May 3rd - Austin/Furnace Mountain Circuit hike in SNP A rugged but pretty 13.8 mile hike in southern SNP. This hike hasn't yet been done for Mosaic to my knowledge. This difficult hike ranges across the western slopes of Austin Mtn. toward outlying, conical peaks of the Blue Ridge. The hike includes short side trips to the summit of Furnace Mtn. and Blackrock, both of which offer excellent views. Solid foot gear is recommended, as sections of this circuit can be rocky, steep, and rather poorly graded. Meet at 9:00 AM at Vienna Metro, north entrance. Cost: $12M/$17NM to cover driving costs (possible park entry fee if not a passholder).
