Tuesday, September 1 at 7 pm Is scholarship the sole motive for religious law or are there other considerations? Professor David Weiss Halivni explains the human influences on the divine text. Dr. David Weiss Halivni is the Lucius N. Littauer Professor Emeritus of Classical Jewish Civilization at Columbia University. A native of Ukraine, he received his DHL from the Jewish Theological Seminary. A prodigious author and recent recipient of the prestigious Israel Prize, his works include seven volumes of critical research on the Talmud as well as his memoirs, The Book and the Sword: A Life of Learning in the Shadow of Destruction. He currently teaches at Bar-Ilan University and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Tickets are $18 | $10 for Spertus members | $
