Saturday, July 17 or Sunday, July 18, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. To register for this course, contact Otis College of Art and Design directly at (310) 665-6950. Ancient jewelry-making techniques converge with new millennium technology through Precious Metal Clay (PMC). This malleable material, consisting of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder and water, can be formed like earthen clay. When fired in a kiln, it fuses or "sinters," to become a 99.9%-pure silver object.
In this one-day intensive class offered in partnership with Otis College of Art and Design, students begin to master PMC as they learn how to texture, set gems, roll coils, form custom bails, re-hydrate dry material, and use a butane torch to fire creations made at home. Students create an original pair of earring drops and a pendant. The course covers various finishing methods including wire brushing, burnishing, and patinas. No experience necessary.
Instructor: Lora Hart has been certified by metal clay programs including PMC Connection, Rio Rewards, and Art Clay Silver. She is one of the founding directors of New Metal Artists, the Los Angeles Chapter of the PMC Guild. Her work has been exhibited in many galleries around the Southland.
Class limited to 12 students
