Her mother’s unpublished memoir and the memories of Vivienne Roumani-De – whose family lived in Libya for centuries – serve as our entrée into the world of Libyan Jews. Vivienne will highlight Jewish life from the early period of Italian colonization, the subsequent imposition of fascist racial laws, World War II and the departure of most of the Jewish community ending with their final flight in 1967, two years before Qaddafi's revolution. The evening will include the voices of Libyan Jews living in Israel and Italy as well as archival photographs, film footage and insights into the current situation in Libya. Vivienne has done extensive research on Sephardic Jewry and oral histories of Libyan Jews. She has published and lectured widely and her documentar
