Ancient jewelry-making techniques converge with new technology through Precious Metal Clay (PMC). This malleable material, consisting of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder and water, can be formed like earthen clay. When fired in a kiln, it fuses or “sinters,” to become a 99.9% pure silver object. In this one-day intensive class, students learn how to texture, set gems, roll coils, form custom bails, re-hydrate dry material, and use a butane torch to fire creations made at home.
Students create an original pair of earring drops and a pendant. Course covers various finishing methods including wire brushing, burnishing, and patinas. No previous experience with PMC or jewelry making is necessary.
Instructor: Lora Hart has been certified by metal clay programs including PMC Connection, Rio Rewards, and Art Clay Silver. She is one of the founding directors of New Metal Artists, the Los Angeles Chapter of the PMC Guild. Her work has been exhibited in many galleries around the Southland.
Class limited to 12 students.
