Author Joy Ladin will discuss her memoir Through the Door of Life: A Jewish Journey Between Genders at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:30pm.
In 2008, Dr. Ladin made headlines when after years of teaching at an Orthodox Jewish university as a man, she returned as a woman. She will discuss the transition process, not just of changing genders but of creating a new self.
Moderating the discussion will be Dr. Norman Spack, co-founder of Children’s Hospital’s Gender Management Service Clinic in Boston.
Open to the entire community. The program is part of the Ryna Greenbaum JCC Boston Jewish Literary Series. Co-sponsored by Keshet. Cost is $8. Purchase tickets at www.bostonjcc.org/bookfair or contact 617-965-5226 or boxoffice@jccgb.org
