“Knowledge is the Beginning” Film Screening & Discussion

Knowledge is the Beginning is about the Muslim-Jewish youth orchestra organized by Daniel Barenboim and Edward Saiid. The West Eastern Divan Orchestra has brought together talented young musicians from Israel, Palestine, the Middle East and Spain. The film follows them as they encounter each other, see their similarities and examine their differences. The film culminates in this historic 2005 concert held in the West Bank city of Ramallah as Israel was ending its long occupation of the Gaza Strip. Our host for the film and discussion will be Sharon Cohen, an Israeli Violinist who was at the Ramallah concert and is still a member of the West Eastern Divan Orchestra.
