Violence, Peace, and the Ethics of Judaism: Ancient Texts and Modern Dilemmas Thursday, November 6 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. Religion is fraught with ambiguity. Religious texts and ideas that can be used to foster peace can also be used to foster violence and vice versa. Everything depends on how they are read and interpreted. In this lecture, Dr, Robert Eisen, Professor of Religion and Director of the Judaic Studies Program at the George Washington University, will explore this ambiguity in the classical texts of Judaism. Dr. Eisen will also demonstrate the relevance of these texts and their ambiguities in the current conflict in the Middle East. This class is free and no registration is necessary.
