Raised as brothers in Kenya, native-born Kimani (Sidney Poitier) and Peter (Rock Hudson), the son of a colonist, find themselves on opposite sides of the Mau Mau Uprising. Both feel a strong bond with one another, but colonial tensions and rising violence pose difficult barriers.
