How the West Was Won by John Ford (1962, 162 min.). This epic Western follows expansion through the late 1800s with the Prescott family as they travel from the Erie Canal to the West Coast, each family member fulfilling their own destiny along the way. The ensemble cast includes John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck, Carroll Baker, and Carolyn Jones. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards, and won three, including Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and Best Writing, Story, and Screenplay. Ford shot this film in Cinerama, making it one of the few dramatic feature films made using this curving wide screen process. Members, seniors, and students $8; general admission $10
