Kathryn Selig Brown The relationship between China and Tibet dates back to the Tang Dynasty during the seventh century. At one time, Tibetans occupied areas along the Silk Road and southwest China; more recently, China has occupied Tibet. Mongol and Manchu rulers were devotees of Tibetan Buddhism and made Tibetan art, architecture and culture a part of the imperial culture.
