Carol Smith with Henry Foner and Steve Leberstein Through art, photographs and music, learn about the student and faculty activism at City College of New York in the 1930s that was spawned by the Great Depression and European Fascism. This activism, a unique chapter in the history of the Jewish Left in New York, brought repeated crackdowns by the college administration and a legislative investigation that resulted in the dismissal of 50 City College faculty and staff members—the largest academic purge in American history to that point.
