Saul Bellow once said, “Oppressed people tend to be witty.” But not just about the oppressors. Also about themselves. Our humor takes on the high and mighty – community leaders and pompous rabbis – as well as the lowly and wretched, the schlemiel and the shlimazel. No subject is safe. Everything is grist for our mill. Bring a favorite joke or two to share with others. We’ll also have a vast assortment to learn on the spot. And then we’ll try to figure out what makes them funny, or not, and why laughing is so vital to our survival.
