Starting in the Bible, with Abraham, and later, Moses, challenging God, Jews have refined our skills at argumentation. This talent matured with Talmudic pilpul and medieval apologetics. More recently, modern day Yiddish writers honed these skills to a fine art. We’ll examine texts from all these periods that will illustrate our fondness for this time-honored tradition.
