The White Sands Film Festival is a project of the Otero County Film Office, a non-profit organization, which has been developed to represent the wide ranging talents of filmmakers. The festival intends to develop an audience through which filmmakers, distributors and affiliated organizations can promote their creative and commercial skills.
The organizers believe that the locations in Otero County teamed with a significant pool of talent can make a difference to both visitors and film professional participants.
The organizers also work toward making a significant difference to local and state economies by promoting the film industry to people wishing to base their production in beautiful New Mexico.
Mission Statement
The White Sands Film Festival presents films with a positive message. We honor filmmakers that encourage and entertain.
Why “White Sands”?
Otero County is very proud of its history and the variety of locations within a thirty minute drive. The White Sands National Monument, some ten miles from Alamogordo, offers pure white gypsum sand, and has “starred” in countless movies, commercials, and advertisements. The aspens and pine trees in the nearby Lincoln National Forest, the quaint streets of Cloudcroft, and its historic Lodge Resort are all beautiful locations to consider. The city look of Alamogordo and the charming haciendas of Tularosa add great variety.
The high desert landscape of the Tularosa Basin, at the foot of the Sacramento Mountains, offers the best of southern New Mexico. The heritage and beauty of Otero County, and especially the White Sands, led us to the name of our film festival.
