Zionist Dreams, Israeli Nightmares?

Revolutionary movements often begin with utopian ideals and the greatest of expectations, only to have these visions dashed by sobering realities. Some would suggest that this is the case with the Zionist dream. This lecture will explore Zionist thought at its inception and compare it with the realities that shape Israel today.

Dr. Edward Breuer, a native of Montreal, received his PhD at Harvard University. He has taught at Loyola University-Chicago, McMaster University, University of Pennsylvania, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, and Hebrew University. Widely published, he is the author of The Limits of Enlightenment and articles in journals including the Harvard Theological Review and Modern Judaism. His next book is a collection of translations, Moses Mendelssohn on Judaism: The Hebrew Writings.
