Giants of Science: Jane Goodall

Sat 20 Sep. 1395 Lexington Avenue, New York, 10128. 212-415-5500. 92nd Street Y - [email][events]

This series is not just for folks who got As in high school chemistry. The scientists are such good storytellers, their subjects so provocative and the conversation so easygoing that all you have to do is bring your mind (and a friend). Robert Krulwich of Nova Science Now, an NPR regular and an ABC News correspondent, is the host. Students admitted at half price with ID.

Renowned primatologist Jane Goodall founded the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977 to continue her pioneering research of chimpanzee behavior—research that transformed scientific perceptions of the relationship between humans and animals. Today, the institute is a global leader in the effort to protect chimpanzees and their habitats and is widely recognized for establishing innovative community-centered conservation and development pro-grams in Africa and the Roots & Shoots education program in nearly 100 countries. Goodall has collected scores of honors, including the French Legion of Honor, Medal of Tanzania and Japan’s prestigious Kyoto Prize. In 2002, she was named a Dame of the British Empire. She is the author of numerous books, including In the Shadow of Man, Through a Window, Harvest for Hope: A Guide to Mindful Eating and Reason for Hope: A Spiritual Journey.
