This classic film tells the story of a dybbuk, a spirit who possesses the body of his beloved. Inspired by an ethnographic expedition of Jewish life in Eastern Europe and inspired by interwar artistic movements, the Yiddish gothic film meticulously incorporates themes of money, social custom, and folklore in a parable of modernity.
