True Tales of Mexican Migration

Call to confirm date. February Antonio\'s Gun and Delfino\'s Dream: True Tales of Mexican Migration by Sam Quinones These nine non-fiction stories explore issues of Mexican immigration. Three stories tell the tale of Delfino Juárez, a twelve-year-old boy who leaves his mountain village to work in Mexico City, and then makes a dangerous journey to Arizona through the Sonora desert. Other stories depict human trafficking at the United States-Mexico border, an American who returns to his native county in Mexico to run for mayor, and the effects of soccer games in Kansas.

ADMISSION:
$125 General; $100 Members; $75 Students

This winter the Skirball Book Groups examine stories of freedom in America and beyond. At each meeting, under the direction of a professional book group facilitator, participants learn about the author\'s background and explore the book together, engaging in lively conversation. Discussion questions are distributed in advance of each class session. Participants must read the book prior to each class session. All books are available at Audrey\'s Museum Store at the Skirball. Book Group participants receive a 10% discount (may not be combined with other discounts).
