Theory and Process in Dance Therapy

The objective of this experiential course is to help students understand principles through movement. The course includes lectures, discussion, move-ment improvisation, individual and group movement experiences of dance therapy methods and structures, and movement leadership experiences for each student. The focus is on group work, dance forms as the source of therapy, the role of the therapist, elements of a dance therapy session and movement observation. Students keep personal logs and are assigned readings, a midterm and a final paper. Part of Dance Therapy Training at the 92nd Street Y.
