The year 2009 marks the 200-year anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth. In honor of this, journalist Adam Gopnik and psychologist Dacher Keltner explore the ideas of evolution and goodness and how they influenced one another and changed over time. Gopnik has been writing for The New Yorker since 1986. He is the author of many books, including Angels & Ages: How Lincoln and Darwin Invented the Mind of the Modern World. Keltner is a professor of psychology at the University of California, director of the Greater Good Science Center, and coeditor of Greater Good magazine.
