With live performance and conversation, award-winning pianist Inna Faliks leads an exploration of the music and Jewish identities of three distinctive composers. She shares music and stories of Felix Mendelssohn, the beloved 19th-century icon; Arnold Schoenberg, a revolutionary 20th-century composer in pre-war Vienna; and Ilya Levinson, a contemporary Russian-American composer inspired by Klezmer, who joins us at Spertus for this program.
Inna Faliks has been described by critics as “riveting, passionate, and poetic.” Recipient of the coveted Pro Musicis International Award, she gave her debut with the Chicago Symphony at age 15 and has performed around the world.
Ilya Levinson graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory. He emigrated to the U.S. and earned a doctorate in composition from the University of Chicago. He is a lecturer at Columbia College Chicago and the University of Chicago. An award-winning composer, he also serves as composer-in-residence with American Music Festivals.
Tickets are $20 | $15 for Spertus members | $10 for students
