Patricia Bosworth, Sheila Weller, Judith Warner, Joanna Smith Rakoff and Emily Gould American women’s lives have changed radically over the last half-century. Tonight, successful women who came of age in different eras compare their experiences as writers, workers, lovers, mothers and daughters and discuss the pendulum swing of their lives, from stability and traditionalism to rebellion and bohemianism and back again.

Patricia Bosworth’s biography of Diane Arbus inspired the film Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus. She’s currently working on the biography, Becoming Jane Fonda. Sheila Weller is the author of Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon—and the Journey of a Generation. Judith Warner is a columnist for The New York Times and author of Perfect Madness: Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety. Joanna Smith Rakoff’s debut novel, A Fortunate Age, is being published this spring. Emily Gould, a former co-editor at Gawker, blogs at Emilymagazine.com. Her collection of essays And the Heart Says…Whatever , will be released in 2010.
