Poolside Hangin’ & Beach Activities

When: Sunday, Jul 12, 2009, 9:00 AM Where: Holiday Isle, Islamorada, in the Florida Keys Poolside Hangin’ & Beach Activities at Holiday Isle, Islamorada, in the Florida Keys. When: Sunday, July 12, 9:00 a.m. at the Hollywood carpool site, 9:30 a.m. at the Dade carpool site, or 11 a.m. at the Holiday Isle resort in Islamorada. Or arrive at your leisure if you prefer not to carpool.

What: Mosaic will spend the day relaxing and playing at the Holiday Isle Resort in Islamorada, in the Florida Keys. Lots of water sports are available, including snorkeling from shore or boat, parasailing, wave runners, kayaks, and rafts, all of which can be rented on an individual basis. There’s also free unlimited beach volleyball, Kadima, Frisbee, or just relax pool side and sip pina coladas. Enjoy the beach, live music, and the legendary Tiki Bar. There are several excellent beachside seafood shacks you can choose from for lunch. Spend all day, shower off and get changed there, and expect to leave for dinner about 5:00 p.m. to head off to a local seafood restaurant. You’ll feel like you’ve just spent the day in the Bahamas, with none of the hassles of getting there. Some people may be going on Saturday evening, and staying overnight. If you’re interested, please tell the trip leader.

Where: Located on the ocean side of the Florida Overseas Highway at mile marker #84.5, just before the Whale Harbor Bridge.

Directions: Take the Florida Turnpike extension south to the end in Florida City, where it feeds onto US 1. Continue south on US 1 toward Key West (do not take the Card Sound Toll Road), go past mile marker 85, and Holiday Isles will be on the left just before the Whale Harbor Bridge. There is some free parking on the left at the resort. Meet near the Holiday Isles swimming pool. Look for the Mosaic group.

Carpool: Please plan accordingly if you will not be staying for dinner.

Broward & Palm Beach Carpool Site: Meet at the Holiday Inn in Hollywood. Take I-95 to Sheridan Street (exit #21), go west on Sheridan to the first light (N. 29 Ave.), turn right (north) and make the first left into the Holiday Inn. Meet in the parking lot on the right side of the hotel as you’re facing the hotel. Meet at 9:00 a.m. We will depart at 9:15 a.m. sharp!

Dade Carpool Site: Meet at Miami Dade Community College South Campus, southeast parking lot, at the corner of SW 104 Street (Killian Parkway) and 107 Court. Meet at 9:30 a.m. We will leave at 9:45 a.m. sharp!

Bring: Hat, sunscreen, towel, swimsuit, snorkeling gear (optional), money for rentals, drinks, and meals, and board games for pool side. No coolers are allowed on the property, since they want you to use their concessions. Also bring a change of clothes and money for dinner if you want to join the group at a local Keys seafood restaurant.

Reminder: Wear your Mosaic t-shirt to all Mosaic events. At one random event each month, participants wearing a Mosaic t-shirt will receive a $3 discount on the event.

Cost: $3 for Mosaic members, $8 for non members.
