The Book of Job and the Comedy of Suffering

Sun 8 Nov, 2:30-3:30 pm. 610 South Michigan Ave., Chicago, 60605. Ellie Sandler, 312.322.1700. Spertus Museum - [email][events]

Is the Bible’s most tragic book actually funny? Radio personality and self-described “Torah Maven” Aaron Freeman ferrets out the belly laughs in the tale of history’s longest-suffering hero. Job’s litany of anguish and over-the-top-misery are rife with comedic possibilities, though Freeman will also help us see the story’s poignancy and spiritual depth.

Aaron Freeman is a stand-up comedian, author, cartoonist, and blogger. He and his wife, artist Sharon Rosenzweig, publish the online cartoon series, The Comic Torah. Freeman is a member of the acclaimed Israeli/ Palestinian Comedy Tour. He also performs with Second City and in his one-man shows, News Today/Comedy Tonight and Kosher Chitterlings. He can be heard frequently on NPR’s All Things Considered.
