The Genesis of Prejudice: Exploring Humanity's Dark Side

Join Ernestine Schlant Bradley for a compelling encounter with works of literature and one film that present compelling insights into the genesis and effects of prejudices and of anti-Semitism in particular. These works attempt to communicate the inner dynamics of prejudice through poignant and impressive portrayals of individual cases. Readings will include: Brodeck (Claudel), There are Jews in My House (short story by Lara Vapnyar), Andorra (Frisch), The Jew’s Car (Fuhmann). Dr. Bradley, author of The Language of Silence: West German Literature and the Holocaust, is visiting associate professor of Humanities at The New School and a highly regarded teacher at the JCC.
