Learn the art of storytelling with performance artist-in-residence Vanessa Hidary at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton on Thursday, March 14 at 7:30pm. Hidary, aka The Hebrew Mamita, grew up on Manhattan's culturally diverse Upper West Side. Her one woman show, Culture Bandit tours nationally and chronicles Vanessa's coming of age during the golden age of Hip-Hop.

She has aired on “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry Jam" on HBO, and is featured in the short, award-winning film, “The Tribe.” She has also conducted poetry and racism workshops with Bnai' Brith Youth organization, and recently published her first collection of poems and stories titled The Last Kaiser Roll in the Bodega.
