American Master Prints of the 1920's, 30's & 40's

Sat 1 Mar. Good Impressions: American Master Prints of the 1920's, 30's & 40's From the collection of Frederick and Jan Mayer Feb. 17–April 13 The period of the 1920's through the 1940's saw the flowering of American printmaking. Inspired by venerable European print traditions, American artists turned to techniques – lithography, etching, woodcut, etc. – that produced their compositions in "editions" (multiple originals). These democratic art mediums insured that original art would be available and affordable to the masses. Particularly during the years of the Works Progress Administration, the government employed many artists of significant stature and reputation, as well as relative unknowns, to create original prints for a variety of purposes. 350 South Dahlia Street, Denver, 80246. Israeli FILM CLUB: LATE Summer BLUES (1980)

Sat 1 Mar. Mar 1, 2008 Department: Judaic & Israel Location and Time: 8:30 pm Cost: $10 JCC members, $12 general admission For More Information Contact: Naomi Ifhar x272 nifhar A group of close friends celebrate the bittersweet changes that come into their lives during the summer of their highschool graduation: adult responsibilities, adult romance–and the soberingly adult fact that some of their numbers are being drafted into the Israeli army. This has very much the feel of a high-school beach-party movie–with music, and in Hebrew–until a sudden and disturbingly realistic reminder of their own mortality finally slashes through the kids' cheerful, close-knit obliviousness. Director: Renen Schorr Cast: Dor Zweigenbaum, Yoav Tzafir, Noa Goldenberg, Vered Cohen, Shahar. 411 E Clinton Ave, Tenafly. 201·569·7900. Jewish Community Center on the Palisades - [email][events]

The Paradoxes of American Jewish Political Behavior

Fri 14 Mar. Shabbat Dinner with Zvi Gittelman Topic: The Paradoxes of American Jewish Political Behavior Since the 1950s, American Jews have had all the socioeconomic characteristics associated with conservative political positions and voting for Republican candidates. Many theories have been advanced to explain the paradoxical behavior of American Jews, but none can be proved. In this election year, it is important to try to understand the political thinking and actions of a small but important part of the electorate. We will also compare and contrast the political characteristics of ex-Soviet American Jews. 1395 Lexington Avenue, New York, 10128. 212-415-5500. 92nd Street Y - [email][events]
